Am Rande der Welt
"Am Rande der Welt" is a book about the clash of civilizations and it depicts the arrival of the europeans in the New World and shows this event from two perspectives. Historical figures like Columbus and Cortez tended to be viewed in a rather good and revisionist light, despite of their barbarous acts of violence, but the discourse has gladly shifted to the demise of their legacies and people start talking about their crimes and the chaos they brought to the people they deemed to be inferior. On the one hand this book illustrates the chaos that ensued after their arrival from the perspective of the natives. On the other hand it shows the view of many good willed, but yet naive christian settlers and missionaries who thought, they would do the so called heathens in those unknown lands a favor by bringing them the light of god.
- The book is a Leporello and can be spread for a uncommonly long illustration
- The book is filled with detailed Ink-Illustrations and there is much to find here and there
- It shows that there is more to a conflict than just one side of the tale.
I’m Ozan, 29 years old and am an Illustrator and Graphic Designer with a passion for the occult. I mostly like working with ink and graphite and tend to leave most of my works in black and white, but some color here and there wouldn’t hurt either… may some people say. But not me! Mostly I’m thematically engaged with historical and mythological themes, especially, in the context of todays world. There have been so many tales and legends, that still affect us in ways we can’t fully comprehend.
