Skin Showcases
Skin is huge. It stretches from head to toe, from the centre of our bodies all the way up to the fingertips. It is by far our largest organ. And because skin is so huge in size, there is of course loads to explore and discover... Skin introduces itself from up close and cheeky, colourful arms brought lots of things to help with that. Throughout the showcase skin talks about its dots, patterns and colours and shows off its hair and wrinkles. But then in the end we hear from other skins and nothing is as it seems. Because every human skin is very unique and never the same. “skin showcases” invites us to go inspect our own skin, to discover what our friends have that we don’t or simply to go count our own birthmarks. Let’s go take a look at skin!
– Didactic picture book for children.
– Inspiring to explore one‘s own appearance.
– A basis for introducing topics such as discrimination, acceptance and self-esteem.
Prickle cell layer, collagen scaffolds, marionette lines. These are some of the words I’ve stumbled upon and learnt about while working on “skin showcases”. They are too complex formy niece to understand. Nevertheless, I wanted to show her how skin is extraordinarily unique and varies in appearance so much. Hi, I’m Klara. I’m an exhibition and infographics designer in the fields of art, culture and science. I manage and filter information and make them easy accessible. My favourite audience for that is children. That’s why with my book about skin I’m diving into the world of didactic picture books. My aim is to design books as a basis to introduce children to socio-politically relevant topics.
